Popular Batman and Robin Costumes
Posted on: October 1, 2011
Batman and Robin costumes have been popular since shortly after they were introduced in DC Comics in the late 1930s. They are instantly recognizable, lots of fun, and popular with boys and men. Female Robin costumes are very popular among women too. Particularly fun is to have two people dress as Batman and Robin, although as I learned in the 1960s, there often is an argument as to who will be Batman and who will be Robin! My friend and I both dressed as Batman, fine for children, but with adults one of each is more fun.
These costumes are popular not just because of the comic book, but also the very popular and recent movies featuring Batman and sometimes Robin as well. The 1960 camp TV series is also responsible for a lot of fans too, and has a near cult following in reruns. Also, both of the Dynamic Duo, as they are often referred, are easy to relate to. Although Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne, may be a millionaire and live in a massive mansion, he is an ordinary human. He cannot fly, he has no super powers, and he is not some kind of genetic mutant. Robin himself is just a young man. This sets them apart from most other superheroes.
If you were to dress like Batman, the question would be which one as his look has changed throughout the years. All black "Batman The Dark Night" costumes are impressive, but not the most popular. I prefer the TV show style, which is usually light blue or gray and back. In any case, you'll have a bat mask and bat cape and everyone will immediately know who you are dressed as.
Robin costumes are most commonly red and bright green as in the TV show, with a small black cape and yellow belt. Equally popular is the more classic DC Comics style which features a darker, more somber green, and a much larger cape much like Batman's.
It's a little known fact that there actually have been 4 Robins. The first Dick Grayson, was Robin the longest, but he eventually quit and pursued other super hero interests. Although the first 3 Robins dressed similarly, the 4th Robin was Stephanie Brown, a female. Costume representing her, often called sexy Robin costumes, have the same color patterns as the male costumes but leave far more leg exposed and show significant cleavage. They are very popular from teenagers on up.
